Event description

Description

The SBSE 2019 retreat is titled FRONTIERS: TEACHING BUILDING SCIENCE IN THE 21ST CENTURY. It will convene July 22-25, 2019 at the Taft-Nicholson Center (TNC) in Montana’s Centennial Valley, a nearly untouched landscape located in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. TNC is a field campus for the College of Humanities, University of Utah. From this place of extreme beauty, solitude, and endless horizons, we will have the opportunity to consider the frontiers of knowledge and practice around teaching environmental building science in the 21st Century.

This retreat location offers unparalleled opportunities to explore the West with close proximity to Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park. We recommend flying into Bozeman, MT or Idaho Falls, ID (~3 hour drive) and spending some time in the region before or after the retreat. You may also fly into Salt Lake City (5 hour drive).

Visit the SBSE Retreat Webpage for more information on the schedule and logistics. Plan to be at the retreat by early afternoon on Monday the 22nd of July, check-in starts at 3:30 pm. We will be checking out of the center at 10 am on Thursday the 25th of July.

Registration & Lodging

When you click on the "Tickets" button above you will see two types of fees. All attendees are required to register for the "general registration" that is $270.00 USD. The other fee is related to lodging options that range from $100 - $325.00 USD for 3 nights. There are 4 accomodation types:

Dormitory style lodge with shared accomodations that includes 19 twins and bunkbeds and 3 shared bathrooms with a kitchen. Dormitory beds come with a mattress, pillow and a top sheet, but you will need to bring a sleeping bag or blanket. Towels and soap are provided, but shampoo is not.

Private small cabins in what is known as the University Village. This includes 11 individual tiny cabins that have a twin platform and shared bathhouse facilities external to the cabins. These twin platforms do not have a mattress. Therefore, guests will need to bring their own pad, pillow and a sleeping bag. Towels and soap for washing and showering are provided. No shampoo is available.

One and two bedroom "rustic cabins" for families or colleauges that would like to share. The organizers of the retreat will not orchestrate sharing of these cabins. We encourage you to coordinate with colleagues and determine who will share and then register the accomodation option. The rustic cabins are offered with all bed linens and towels. Soap is provided but shampoo is not.
