Ashley Lopez is pretty freakin' amazing. We are so fortunate that she is visiting the midwest this summer and is going to grace little ol' Springfield with her presence! I can't say as much as her website will: www.ashleylopezbellydance.com

WHEN: There is a show featuring Ashly and our fabulous local dancers on June 24th at Club Vibe! Doors open at 8 and show starts at 9! The workshops are June 25th from 11AM-3PM (hour break for lunch) and June 26th from 1PM-3PM

Saturday's workshops will be:
It’s Noodle Time!
Bendy noodles! Strength and flexibility are essential to becoming a powerful dancer. Backbends, flexible legs and shoulders, and fabulous floor work all require strong, long muscles. More importantly, strength and flexibility can help prevent injuries, protect existing injuries, improve the range and clarity of movements, and protect the longevity of your dance, so you never have to quit! This class will feature Yoga poses and Pilates exercises which will help you bring your dancing to a new level. Modifications will be offered for all levels and abilities. Build leg strength for traveling & relevé. Learn how to protect your knees & low back. Discover the key to arm carriage without neck and shoulder tension. Develop flexibility for incredible back bends and splits. Practice killer abdominal/back/glute/core exercises. Use breathing & meditation exercises to help calm & center the mind.

AND THEN!
Snakelike: Discover your inner serpent. The signature movements in belly dance mean fluidity in motion: undulations, circles, and figure-eights.
This workshop will help you learn how to sequence basic isolations so you can create movements that look boneless and effortless. You will practice drills that will help you build the strength and coordination needed to execute fluid body rolls, awe-inspiring belly rolls, succulent hip circles, fluid upper body shapes, and graceful arms. Rest assured, there is no magic potion to these techniques…you can master any of them through simple exercises and strengthening your muscles. All levels welcome (some belly dance experience strongly recommended). Different options will be offered for both beginning and advanced students. Please come prepared a hip scarf, comfortable clothing and water!


Sunday's workshop will be:

Tight Locks & Luscious Layers
This is a high-energy class, not designed for the faint of heart! Expect to sweat. Which muscles are used for hip locks, or chest pops? What about twisting the hips, or chest slides? Sharpen your isolations and learn to multitask by putting them on top of one another in this workshop. We will be working through the anatomy of each lock and isolation so that you’re aware of which muscles are used to fuel the movement. And if you don’t get it right away, don’t worry, we’ll do each move enough times so that the burning tells you what you’re working! What is layering? How in the world does one ever figure out how to do two of these things at once? Why are certain moves harder to layer than others? What moves are best to begin learning layering with? All these questions and more will be addressed during the second half. We’ll practice slow layers, fast layers, traveling layers and POLYRHYTHMIC layers (What!? Don’t worry, you’ll find out soon…) This workshop will burn serious calories and challenge the brain. Various levels of difficulty will be offered so that participants can practice at their own pace. Some belly dance experience strongly encouraged.
