Event description

Description

Maternal mortality is on the rise across the United States, but all eyes are on Texas, where the way maternal deaths are calculated is under scrutiny, the highest number of uninsured women in the country live, state policies around women’s health programs are consistently evolving and legislators have taken little action to curb this public health crisis. How did Texas get here? And how do we save Texas mothers now?

The Texas Tribune is pleased to present, in partnership with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, a three-part series of conversations on where the state is headed on health care. Join us in person or on our livestream for 2018's first installment of this series: a discussion on women's health and maternal mortality in Texas.

Our panelists are:

  • State Rep. Shawn Thierry, D-Houston
  • Sherry Duson, Founder and Director of the Center for Postpartum Family Health
  • Yasser F. Zeid, Founder and Physician at Zeid Women’s Health Center

Marissa Evans, health and human services reporter for The Texas Tribune, will moderate this event.
