Save the Date: University of Salford Falls & Mobility Workshop
Mon, May 15, 2017, 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM BST
Researchers across the Centre for Health Science Research are tackling the issues of falls monitoring, prevention and treatment from a wide breadth of approaches including: rehabilitation, clinical gait analyses, foot health devices, walking aides, falls & activity monitoring hardware, fear of falling, older-adult friendly built environments and many others.
The University of Waterloo and Schlegel Care Homes, in Canada, have been research partners for over 20 years and this partnership has culminated in the establishment of Research Institute for Aging. We will hear from Josie D’avernas, Executive Director of RIA, on how the research partnership arose, and the benefits and examples of how research has impacted the day-to-day care. This is an exemplar of a true industrial-university collaboration whereby researchers, students and workers within the industry collaborate to improve health care for an ageing society. We will explore this exemplar to consider its fit with our strategic priority for industrial collaborations and research partners.
We will also use demonstration style workshops that include:
1) Introduction to the area of Falls and Mobility
2) Falls monitoring – Prof Malcolm Granat
3) Rehabilitation: Dr Kris Hollands
4) Walking devices – Dr Sybille Thies
5) Footwear devices: Prof Chris Nester
6) Monitoring assistive device use: Prof Laurence Kenney
