Save Our Streams Training Field Day, "Group 1" - Cedar Falls, IA
Event Information
About this Event
After watching the "Introduction to Water Quality" and "Introduction to Macroinvertebrates" presentations found at https://www.iwla.org/water/stream-monitoring/upcoming-water-monitoring-workshops/online-certification, you can attend this field day to complete your Save Our Streams volunteer water quality monitoring training process!
The Izaak Walton League is partnering with Green Iowa Americorps to provide a training workshop for the Save Our Streams volunteer water quality monitoring program. The field day will address watershed surveys, selecting a monitoring site, chemical monitoring techniques, and rocky and muddy bottom aquatic macroinvertebrate sampling and identification protocols.
- The online training videos are a prerequisite to attend this field day.
- Masks will be mandatory when in the vicinity of others.
- Bring clothing appropriate for the weather, as the entire time will be spent outdoors.
- Bring waders or waterproof boots if you have them. They won't be required, but will allow you to more fully participate in the in-stream activities.
- A notebook and pen or pencil are recommended.
- Measures will be taken to reduce risk of transmission of COVID-19: we will be using extra gear to minimize sharing and close contact, hand sanitizer will be provided, masks will be required, social distancing will be observed whenever possible, and attendance will be capped at 10 attendees to limit the group size.
