Event description
Come learn about water quality issues and learn to monitor stream health by collecting and identifying benthic macroinvertebrates!

About this Event

Save Our Streams (SOS) is a fun way to test water quality by collecting and identifying underwater insects, called macroinvertebrates. The Izaak Walton League is working with the Lois-Green Sligo and Mt.Airy Chapters to provide a workshop for those who wish to become certified Biological Monitors. Visit https://www.chesapeakemonitoringcoop.org/services/benthic-training/ to learn more about biological monitoring through the Chesapeake Monitoring Cooperative.

Training will consist of an indoor morning session at the Lois Green-Sligo Chapter house, followed by an afternoon session practicing our monitoring techniques at nearby Cabin Branch.

Dress for the weather, as we will be doing the field component in rain or shine in the afternoon. Bring your own rubber boots, waders, or water shoes, and a bagged lunch. Note-taking supplies are suggested.

Classes fill up quickly, so register now!
