Event description

Description

Maine’s coast – from its sandy beaches in the south to the rocky and dramatic shores Downeast - is at risk through rising seas, storm surges, and damaging erosion. Join Steve Dickson, who has been studying Maine’s coasts for 30 years, and CLF’s Sean Mahoney, to learn about coastal processes and how climate change may affect our shores. We’ll explore the southern end of Ferry Beach, where homes and infrastructure are increasingly at risk due to erosion, the power of severe storms, and rising tides. As we walk, we’ll learn how CLF is working to ensure a strong, resilient Maine coast.

CLF LEAD GUIDES:

  • Stephen Dickson, Marine Geologist with the Maine Geological Survey
  • Sean Mahoney, Executive Vice President, Director of Programs, and Director of CLF Maine

WALK: 1.5 – 2 miles. May include some walking on the beach

WALK TIME: 2:30 - 4 pm (Meet in the Dolphin Room in Quillen Building at the Ferry Beach Retreat and Conference Center. We will depart from there at approximately 2:30)

LIGHT REFRESHMENTS: 4:00–5:00 pm in the Dolphin Room in Quillen Building at Ferry Beach Retreat and Conference Center (After our walk, we'll return for some light refreshments. If you prefer to skip the walk and just meet us at 4:00, you're welcome to do so!)

Please contact Cori Roach at croach@clf.org or 617-850-1740 with any questions.
