Description

THE SHOW

This is the eighth in a series of fundraising concerts organized to pay for the defunded music education program at Castelar Elementary School. Established in 1882 and sitting right in the middle of Chinatown, the inner-city campus serves mostly immigrant kids who don't get much exposure to performing arts or creative outlets. Chinatown has an unbeatable musical past (mostly punk) and rad art scene in the present (post punk). Neither crowd crosses paths often with the residents in Chinatown but we're trying to create a bridge for them to help out the local kids.

This special bill will include:
• The Crowd - Super melodic and energy-packed surf punks from HB, as heard on Posh Boy's massively influential Beach Blvd. and Rodney on the Roq compilations.
• Bad Cop/Bad Cop - Supremely ripping, catchy, and polished-but-not-slick punk rock with unbelievable harmonies that are freakishly pulled off live.
• FourEyedFour - Melodic, moody, and hyper intelligent roots rock with miles of Chinatown/SGV punk lineage, including 3/4 of the Flyboys.
• Bombón - This hard-working trio from Pedro plays perfectly rough music for surfing, spying, and no-holds-barred 16dancing.

That's a loaded bill for 12 lousy bucks (and maybe some raffle tickets).

THE RAFFLE

In addition to donating for admission, guests will be able to donate money toward raffle tickets for a chance to score prizes. $1 = 1 ticket. So far, and it's still early, prizes include the following:

• Goodies from Frontier/Dangerhouse Records
• Faultline Gin by Frontier Records/K&L Wines with label signed by Jaime Hernandez and Lisa Fancher
• Postpunk/goth mix tape from Jawseybruce Records
• Gift certificate from Scoops
• Gift certificate from Donut Friend
• Gift certificate from Kumquat baby clothes
• Gift certificate from Permanent Records
• Chinatown zines by Allister Wong/BIB
• Rock 'n' roll goodies from Berndt Offerings
• Merch from The Crowd
• Hand-finished metal art Joe Strummer stars by Mike Magrann of Channel Three
• Framed 12" x 12" print of Nirvana at Al's Bar by photographer Krk Dominguez
• Print from Greg Jacobs/Rib Shots Photography
• Save Music in Chinatown: The First Two Years zine
