Save 100 Lives Appeal Launch
Wed, May 24, 2017, 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM BST
Broadway Lodge, one of the UK's oldest and most respected residential treatment centres for addiction, is delighted to invite you to the launch of its £1 million Appeal: Save 100 Lives.
Demand for our programmes has never been higher yet in the UK, only 4% of people struggling with alcohol (2% other drugs) receive funded residential care. Nearly every day people contact us who are desperate for help, but unless they have the means to pay for themselves, we are forced to turn them away. The harsh truth is that many of these people will die without residential treatment: being unable to help is heart-breaking.
We are absolutely determined to address this unjust system. Residential treatment delivers success rates over 3 times higher than treatment in the community. We will be demanding government rebalances its investment in residential versus community-based treatment by taking a longer-term view of what is cost effective, and paying greater attention to the moral case for an abstinence approach which frees people to lead full and productive lives rather than enduring a half life stuck on a methadone script.
Change will take time, however, and we are therefore launching our £1 million Appeal to fund 100 bursary places so that we can treat people who urgently need help now.
Anyone can be an addict. It does not hinge on your salary, job, age, race or upbringing. Most of us will know someone struggling with alcohol or other drugs. It's a progressive illness that destroys livelihoods, relationships and ultimately lives. Yet with the right support, people can turn their lives around, rejoin the workforce, restore relationships with loved ones, contribute to society and enjoy decades of fulfilling recovery.
We are reaching out to businesses and philanthropists in the region, and to our alumni, to urge attendance at the Save 100 Lives Appeal launch, where CEO Caroline Cole will be setting out Broadway Lodge's aims in more detail.
Light refreshments will be provided. There will also be an opportunity to hear from former clients and to view some of the talented creative output, such as pictures and poems, that our clients have produced over the years.
Please reserve your place now. Thank you for your compassion and support.
