Saturday Morning "Cup of Joe" Series

Senior Care: Addressing mental health challenges

There is an increasing body of evidence pointing to the role of "perceived life meaning and purpose" for the mental health of seniors. This live webinar will review common diagnoses to be addressed with seniors, including: depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and personality disorders. Complications of treatment provision, including: decision making, family communication, and the use of medications will be discussed. The relationship between life stressors, salient life roles, social support, and perceived life meaning and purpose, as they relate to mental health for seniors, will be a specific focus of this presentation.

Goals:

1) Learn about how symptoms of common mental health diagnoses are uniquely exhibited by seniors

3) Understand the role of perceived life meaning and purpose in the mental health of seniors.

3) Learn the "do s" and "don't s" of treatment with this population
