Event description

Description

Join us for food, music, and stories at “Sassafras Supper,” a farm-to-table event to benefit the Junior Apprentice Youth Program at Exchange Place Historic Site. This nonprofit, volunteer-run living history farm interprets antebellum farm life in East Tennessee. Reflecting the mission of the Junior Apprentices, we've designed an experience sure to educate and delight you. We're including a period-inspired menu, an award-winning speaker, and food-themed traditional Appalachian music. Our region has always been a place of abundance and culinary creativity, and this evening will give you important insights into how Exchange Place carries on these regional traditions. Our acclaimed speaker, Sheri Castle, is an award-winning cookbook author and a former Senior Food Editor of Southern Living. She'll entertain you with her warm humor and her extensive knowledge of Appalachian foodways. You'll enjoy a delicious and creative meal prepared by local chef Nathan Brand, who is already making a name for himself at local venues like Boone Street Market in Jonesborough. Katie Hoffman, owner of Appalworks (a small business focused on regional arts and cultural heritage) will emcee and will also provide traditional Appalachian music to round out the evening. You'll meet volunteers from Exchange Place and learn how the Junior Apprentices, a talented group of young individuals, are helping to interpret history and heritage at the site. Please support us! In return, we'll fill you with fabulous food, great music, and important insights into our region's history and culture.

For more information, contact Katie Hoffman at katie@appalworks.com or call her at 423.352.7725.
