Event description

Description

*Please note that you need to sign up for this workshop a month before it begins. Often we need to fly these instructors in. If we don't have enough people signed up to cover the basic costs we must cancel the workshops. We want to run all of the workshops. Please help us with this by signing up a month before the workshop begins.

Learn the fundamentals of painting with encaustic paints and medium. This three day workshop will cover color mixing, making glazes and safe studio practices for working in this versatile medium. We will also work with the various characteristics that make this medium unique - from optical depth, to texture and mark making - as well as working with image transfers and mixed media and collage applications. Part of day one will be spent using wax and other materials to create our own collage papers.You will come away with a basic understanding of the media and fusing techniques, as well as how to incorporate encaustic painting into your current studio practice. You do not need prior experience working with encaustic paint, but general art making experience will be helpful. Instructor will supply paint and medium plus all equipment and brushes needed for use during the workshop.

Supply list:

  • 1 roll of 3M blue painter’s tape 1”;

  • 5-6 panels to paint on. Should be wood or Encauticbord. I recommend ¾” cradled panels from Cheap Joes (or similar) no larger than 10”x10”

  • 1 roll of thick paper towel (should be blue shop towels or Viva brand);

  • 1 roll of baker’s parchment paper;

  • sketchbook and pen for note taking;

The $400 for this workshop includes a $65 supply fee for things that Sarah is bringing that is extra.

Refund Policy: You can get a refund of your monies, minus Eventbrite fees up to a month after you make your reservations. From the point of a month before the workshop to the workshop your monies will not be refunded, because often we fly the workshop teachers in based on the people registered.
