Event description

Description

Santa Fe Dharmata hosts Anam Thubten

June 29 - July 1, 2018.

There are three important aspects of meditation: mindful attention, open awareness, and loving kindness. By practicing these we can let go of negative mental patterns and expand our heart and mind, bringing about joy, peace, and inner freedom. Anam Thubten will teach and guide participants in developing these three aspects of meditation and share Buddhist wisdom on working with our thoughts and emotions.

EVENTS:

Friday Evening Public Talk:

June 29, 7-9 pm (Suggested donation $15)

Please note under Get Tickets there are two options for the public talk: you can either donate $15 online or use the free ticket and if you wish, donate at the event. There usually is an opportunity to greet Anam Thubten at the end of the talk.

Weekend Nonresidential Retreat:

Sat. & Sun. June 29 - July 1, 10am-12:30 pm & 2:30 pm-5 pm - $160

Attendance commitment

Anam Thubten has requested everyone attend the entire two day retreat (Sat. & Sun.).

We ask that you make a commitment to participate in the full retreat from beginning to end. There are a couple of reasons why this is important.

  • A retreat can have many twists and turns, with various experiences: some joyful, some difficult, some pleasant, some unpleasant, depending on our own inner process. However, the retreat is a process of transformation. So everyone is asked to make a sacred commitment to stay for the whole retreat, even when it is difficult, trusting in this process.

  • Once a retreat begins, a sacred container is formed, made up of each person's good intentions to be fully present. Leaving the retreat before it is complete energetically breaks that sacred container for oneself and others. Our mutual presence supports each other.

Thank you so much for contemplating this commitment and what it means for you and for your fellow participants. If you are unable to attend the full retreat, please contact the Retreat Coordinator at SantaFe@dharmata.org.

Retreat Schedule

The weekend non-residential retreat is from 10 am - 5 pm each day with an ample break for lunch. The retreat includes periods of meditation and teachings, all held in an atmosphere of inner contemplation.

Registration will remain open until we reach capacity. Early registration is recommended to guarantee a space. Retreat fees are listed above. Full refunds are available until June 18, 2018. For financial aid information, see below.

Participants are responsible for meals and accommodations. See below for a few suggestions. Plenty of chairs are available, but please bring your own cushions for floor seating. You may also want to bring a chair cushion, or your own folding chair.

Questions? Email Jenny or Brent Bondurant at santafe@dharmata.org or call 505-466-4377 (cannot receive text messages).

Timely attendance

Anam Thubten begins each session promptly on time. Please allow ample time for parking and seating yourself at least ten minutes before the session is scheduled to begin.

The practice of Generosity - Dana

Your retreat fee supports the Dharmata Foundation and its facilities and activities. You are invited to make a monetary gift to the teacher at the retreat in gratitude and support of his teaching. Anam Thubten does not receive an honorarium from the retreat fees. Personal donations can be offered by writing a check to Anam Thubten or by placing cash in the dana (donation) box provided (no credit cards). Please do not offer donations directly to Anam Thubten.

Meals & Accomodations

Meals and accomodations are not provided. There are many restaurants in Santa Fe, but the closest to the retreat is over a mile away. It is fine to bring your brown bag lunch and eat at the Woman's Club. Tea is available during the program.

Two places that some people have stayed in the past:

The Sage Inn - This is about 3 miles from the retreat and is located next door to Whole Foods Market.

The Santa Fe Suites - This is about 4 miles from the retreat. The rooms have kitchens.

We are not able to offer accomodations with the local Santa Fe sangha.
