Palm Torch w/ Allison
Have you ever had an opportunity to dance with fire in your hand? While others are manipulating a flame with some sort of apparatus, generally away from the body, dancing with palm torches is about your body being just as much the focal point of the performance as the fire. You could even consider the fire your dance partner. This workshop aims to inspire you to explore ways to create and develop this relationship. Students are encouraged to bring their own "palm torches" - don't worry if you don't have actual torches. Practice torches could be votive holders, small plates (plastic to avoid breakage), coasters, notepads, anything you could hold on your hand with your palm facing up (if it has a strap to keep it on your hand, even better!). Feel free to email beforehand if you have any questions on whether or not something you have at home would be suitable for learning this practice.

5:00 - 6:00
Beg/Int Poi - Allison
Come get your circles on! Whether you've picked up poi before or this is your first time, this will be an open and caring circle for learning and sharing. The goal is not to make you stick to one way of thinking, but rather to share a philosophy, or philosophies, about circles, planes, techniques, etc. While some practice toys will be provided, students who are able to do so are encouraged to bring their own if possible. Tennis balls in knee socks or tube socks are an easy first set!

Hooplesque w/ Venus de Folie
Students in this class should be intermediate or advanced level as there will be hoop choreography to learn. A producer with Unicorn Productions in Albuquerque, 'Venus de Folie’ is the ‘Hoopstress of the Southwest,’ having traveled and performed hooplesque (hooping and burlesque combined) in various burlesque festivals all over as well as in many local shows. While her style is very ’neo’ and usually themed, Venus will start the class with a warm-up, teach some basic hooplesque choreography, and end with a cool-down. Bring your own hoops or borrow some from Venus!

7:30-10:30
