REGISTER NOW for our exciting Sankofa Cyber-Cypher event taking place on November 25th in downtown Oakland at Youth First's tech labs located @ 17th and Telegraph. Come prepared for a hands-on digital journey into eSTEM (ecology, science, technology, engineering and math) with presentations and workshops in VR/AVR (Christopher Lafeyette, Armada), Social Media Strategist (Kumi Rauf, I Love Being Black/traveling.black), Film Production (Jean Black, Black Camera Productions, Digital Activism (Douglas Stewart, Indigenous House Consulting), Radio Broadcasting/Journalism (Shanette Merrick, Rise Up Radio), Afri-Futurism (Duane Detterville), Tech-Now (Stephanie Hervey, Artisan Hub). Youth participants will be trained and then challenged to create “short social media clips” (no longer than 6 minutes) that will highlight various aspects of Oakland’s unique culture, arts, business, politics and/or education. Teams will be matched up with a professional film producer/editor and given the tools to go out into our local community to capture media and content, from which they will have ONE WEEK to edit and submit their final project. Projects will be screened on I Love Being Black’s 6 million+ social media portal and promoted in local film festivals and events. Feature screening will be made at our December Sankofa Cyber-Cypher. Free lunch, prizes, contest and internship opportunities in tech. 10am - 2pm. Limited Space Available.
