Event description

Description

Join us for an IP panel featuring MIT’s TLO director, Lesley Miller-Nicolson and Sandbox’s mentor Marwan Hassoun, a technologist and IP strategy advisor, on Thursday December 14th from 4 to 5:30p.m. This is an important panel for all Sandbox teams looking to commercialize IP developed in research labs or developing their own IP outside of the labs, but inside the MIT campus. you will learn about the important distinction between being an inventor and the legal owner of IP. You will learn about the different mechanisms to protect IP assets. Based on his mentorship of dozens of Sandbox teams, Marwan will go over the most common questions and issues that early-stage start-up face including whether to patent, what to patent, and when. You will get answers to the following questions and more: what are the implications on IP rights for ideas resulting from research funded by the US government or corporate sponsorships? When does MIT pay for patent filing fees? Would MIT pay to patent some cool technology not developed as part of MIT-sponsored research? How does licensing IP from MIT work? Lesley and Marwan will share with you their expertise and answer any general or specific questions you have on the topic of Intellectual property.

The workshop will be in room 3-270. Refreshment will be served at the end of the workshop.
