About this event

Sandbox Camp Ages 8+

Over the course of four days, creative campers will discover three locations in the Minneapolis area. Each day they will learn, explore, and create through various activities and experiences like scavenger hunts, guided tours, and their own limitless creativity! Armed with one of Islands of Brilliance’s iPads, participants will merge the physical and digital worlds as they leave their mark at each location.

HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT DURING THE WORKSHOP!

Day One

Participants will be introduced to the experience and each other. They will learn about and explore the iPad they will be using over the course of the workshops. And they will begin their journey together by sharing how they’ve “left their mark” so far in their homes and communities.

Day Two

We will learn about the arts with a guided tour of the gallery(s). Participants will be introduced to the concept of “Slow Looking” where participants become detectives as they slow down and really explore a work of art, noticing the slightest of details and coming up with stories behind those details, allowing time to make their own discoveries and form a more personal connection with it. Participants will then break off into small groups to further explore the galleries. Finding a piece that resonates with them, they will capture the piece on their iPad and then creatively remix the piece, leaving their mark and making it their own with Procreate.

Day Three

We head outside to learn about nature. Participants will learn about their environment and how we are all interconnected. They will set out on a scavenger hunt to collect materials both physical and digital as they build their final project. While exploring the setting, participants will build on their learnings of “slow looking” with “slow listening,” slowing down to hear and see the finest details of their surroundings. Finally, participants will create rock art to leave behind and write haikus inspired by the day.

Day Four

We will return to our original location to reflect on our experiences over the past three days. Participants will then spend the majority of their day creating a piece on their iPad that sums up their experiences and how they have left their mark at the places we visited…and how they might continue to leave their mark in the future.
