Event description

Description

We often hear the staggering suicide statistics for U.S. Veterans, which are estimated at 20 deaths each day. California is fast attracting a large population of Veterans, currently the largest in the United States, with 1.9 million men and women of all ages. The the first step in building support for our Veterans, reducing high suicide rates, and breaking down stigmas that hold back Veterans from success is to bridge the gap between the growing Veteran populations, the shrinking active duty military groups, and an increasingly disconnected civilian community.

For the past six years, the Bay Area has been home to the San Francisco Veterans Film Festival (SFVFF). The event highlights military experiences of both Veteran and civilian filmmakers while creating a community of individuals seeking its supportive platform. Presented by OneVet OneVoice, the festival is free to the public and continues to welcome real stories of war, unfiltered by Hollywood. The #SFVFF17 is in support of the OneVet OneVoice mission to bridge the gap between Veterans and their benefits, as well as bring awareness of Veteran struggles to the general public.

This year SFVFF will return to the Koret Auditorium at San Francisco Main Library, December 2-3, 2017, for the 6th annual San Francisco Veterans Film Festival.

In 2016, Veteran filmmakers, guests and various organizations gathered to screen documentary and narrative films of all lengths that dealt with a wide range of issues. The audience was engrossed in stories about Veterans returning home, accounts of visible and invisible wounds, and challenges faced by women in combat. Following selected films, panel discussions were moderated by San Francisco VA representatives and specialists well versed in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and the impact of transition from war to daily life.

We encourage you to mark this event on your calendar, support Veterans bringing awareness through film and further help OneVet OneVoice ensure that NO VETERAN GETS LEFT BEHIND!
