Pacific Maritime History - Ships 1840-1940

 With  Ted Miles

 October 21, 2017 - 1:00PM - 3:00PM

This month the San Francisco Special Interest  Group will hold its Oct 21 meeting at the Oakland Family History Center at 4766 Lincoln Avenue. We are very pleased and fortunate to have Ted Miles as our speeker.

TED MILES, who has focused his career for over 30 years in national maritime history, will be our guest speaker.    Mr. Miles will present a lecture on Pacific Maritime history, and discuss the San Francisco Maritime Museum (later known as the SF Maritime National Historical Park).  His presentation will focus on the ships that brought people from Europe to the United States between 1840 and 1940, covering some 50 million immigrants.

San Francisco - Special Interest Group - All future Months:

Interested in finding your San Francisco ancestors, before or after 1906? Looking for Gold Rush pioneers or researching family homes? Want to learn how San Francisco grew into the beautiful city by the Bay we know today?

Join the conversation with the CGS San Francisco Special Interest Group (SF-SIG). We uncover records, view historical photographs and maps, read historical newspapers, manuscripts and other San Francisco records. Our core research guide is Nancy Peterson's book, Raking the Ashes: Genealogical Strategies for Pre-1906 San Francisco Research, published by CGS.

Bring your questions and your expertise so we can help each other. We may not find all of the answers, but we will pool our resources and learn together. Our meetings include problem solving discussions, presentations on specialized topics, occasional guest speakers and field trips.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION:

  •  Class size is limited to 30 attendees.

  •  Special Interest Groups are free to CGS members.

  •  Non-members are welcome to attend one meeting at no charge; thereafter, you may join CGS and attend for free or pay $10 for each meeting attended.

  • Non-Members are welcomed FREE in October, Family History Month!

Register early to confirm your seat.
