Event description

Description

Are you ready for a deeper dive into UX and its inter-relationship with qualitative research? We are excited to have two guest speakers at our next QRCA San Francisco Chapter Meeting to explore the connections between UX and Qual!

Date: Friday May 13, 2016

Time: 9:30-2:30pm

Location: Focus Pointe Global, 450 Sansome St, San Francisco, CA 94111

Part 1: Usability Testing for Marketing Researchers: A Quick Start Guide

Speaker: Cory Lebson, User Experience Consultant and Author of The UX Careers Handbook

  • Cory will discuss how translating qualitative marketing research skills into usability testing skills is more than just the methods. Researchers need to spend the necessary time to become fully versed in what user experience (UX) is all about, knowing what it means to research in light of UX best practices as well as the technical language needed to communicate with design and development teams.
  • He will then review the specifics of a usability test –the best times in the product development life cycle to do research, what initial steps are necessary to plan for the test, extra considerations in recruiting participants and how to develop a test plan. We will also talk about the specifics of the test sessions as well as why participant performance of representative tasks and appropriate observational logger notes are so important.

Part 2: The Future of Usability Testing & UX Research - An Executive’s Perspective

Speaker: Alfonso de la Nuez, CEO of UserZoom

  • Alfonso will speak about the exciting future of UX testing and research in the coming years, from the perspective that usability testing and user experience (UX) research is still mostly a manual process that organizations conduct on an ad-hoc basis. In the near future, however, it will be largely automated, with repeatable, real-time, within-context, on-going studies that span all platforms and bridges quantitative and qualitative insights. The future of UX testing will be fast, automated, efficient and result in real-time metrics to feed live dashboards.

Attendee’s takeaways:

  1. Understand what usability testing is about
  2. Learn what researchers need to know about user experience beyond just research methods
  3. Gain knowledge to plan for usability testing
  4. Gain insight into the potential future of UX research and testing
  5. Get exposure to a usability testing tool

The meeting will be held at Focus Pointe Global. As always we are grateful to them for their generous hospitality and hosting our Chapter at their facility in downtown SF! A tour of the facility and an update on their offer will take place during the lunch break.
