Event description

Description

We’re bringing two UX research experts—Kate Rutter and Steve Krug—to San Francisco in November to teach day-long workshops. These are a great opportunity to deepen your research skills and learn with peers—not to mention get away from the office.

Take one, the other or both workshops; ticket prices go up October 8.

Crafting Metrics for UX Success

Lean strategist with visual communication chops

Participants will learn the components of a successful metric: how to identify clear, specific, actionable, quantitative, and time-based product metrics. The team will identify the key uses of their product, find the best metrics to measure specific user interactions, outline a plan for instrumenting key interfaces and gain the knowledge needed to track these metrics over time.

Most company metrics and analytics miss the most important question: “Does our product work for our users?” By adding meaningful metrics for UX success to a design toolkit, teams are better equipped to measure interactions that are core to the product’s purpose. When relevant metrics are used to inform and support design decisions, the results can be both strategic and persuasive.

Lean Usability Testing

Author of Don’t Make Me Think and Rocket Surgery Made Easy

Even though usability testing is one of the most effective things you can do to improve any digital product, not much of it gets done. Why? Because people tend to think that it has to be a time consuming process that requires serious expertise and will slow down development.

With a mix of demonstration, explanation, and hands-on practice (on your own product!), this workshop will teach your team Steve Krug’s formula for doing low cost/no cost testing that’s simple enough to make it a routine part of every project.

And as an added bonus, it gives your team a chance to spend a day asking Steve their questions about testing or any other aspect of usability.

The day tends to be 60% demonstration, explanation, and Q&A, and 40% hands-on practice. This includes a live demo test so you can see the whole process in detail, a complete explanation of Steve’s recommended testing method (hint: very simple, very fast, and very cheap), hands-on practice creating your own test tasks and moderating a test on your own site, and plenty of time to answer questions about testing or any other aspect of usability.

Groups of 3 or more receive $50 off each ticket when registering as part of the same order.
