San Diego Benefit "For the Love of the Philippines"

Come enjoy a night of quality entertainment while helping thousands of survivors from one of the biggest natural disasters in our lifetime - Super Typhoon Haiyanin the Philippines. A group of concerned San Diegans want to make sure the thousands of survivors left homeless aren't forgotten this holiday season. Survivors will need the basics of food, clothing and shelter for many years to come. Proceeds benefit the American Red Cross and Gawad Kalinga, USA.
The group has confirmed appearances by American Idol finalist Joshua Ledet, American Idol contestant Marvin Calderon Jr., The Voice Philippines contestant Dave Lamar and the talented Amy Monzon. Also confirmed is Tribal Theory, one of the most sought-after live performing groups in San Diego and one of the few to sell out the House of Blues this year. In addition, professional skateboarder Willy Santos, world-famous Mixed Martial Arts fighter and Sambo and Jiu Jitsu champ Dean Lister, Bellator MMA fighter A.J. Matthews, of Carlsbad, and Filipino professional boxer Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta have agreed to attend the event. Organizers are working to confirm the appearance of other celebrities and performers.
The event will be held at Moonshine Flats, the Gaslamp’s newest nightclub owned by San Diego entrepreneur Ty Hauter. He has graciously donated this 800-plus person venue which has a a state-of-the-art 20x30 LED wall.
In addition, the Scripps Howard Foundation, Kohl’s and Qualcomm are the first to make generous monetary donations to the benefit. The MAAC project, a San Diego non-profit helping families in need since 1965, has agreed to be the group's fiscal agent to track donations.
The effort has also received media support from U-T San Diego and U-T TV, its cable and online television station. U-T TV plans to televise the benefit show on Cox 114 and AT&T U-verse 17/1017 and stream it live on UTTV.com
U-T TV News Director Luis Cruz and Anchor Kristina Le have pledged their support along with other local television personalities including 10News Traffic Anchor/Reporter Melissa Mecija and 10News Weathercaster Robert Santos.
The actual benefit show starts promptly at 7pm and 9pm with a cocktail pre-party starting at 6pm.
