Description

SBC VOAD WILL HAVE TWO PRESENTERS AT THE JANUAR 17TH MEMBERSHIP MEETING

The New Normal - Wildfire Mitigation and SCE’s Public Safety Power Shutoff Protocol.” Luis Lara SCE

Changes to California's climate conditions mean that the traditional notion of a fire "season" no longer applies because fires now occur throughout the year and are more destructive. Eight of the 20 most destructive wildfires in the state have happened since 2015. Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) is a practice that Southern California Edison (SCE) may use to preemptively shut off power in high fire risk areas to reduce fire risk during extreme and potentially dangerous weather conditions

HOPE Animal-Assisted Crisis Response - Jodi Smith

HOPE Animal-Assisted Crisis Response is a national all-volunteer, non-profit, crisis response organization with specially trained handlers (psychological first aid, incident command, etc) and canines trained and tested for crisis response work. Agencies call upon HOPE AACR teams to provide comfort and support to people affected by disasters. Scientific evidence has shown animals are a positive factor in helping people cope with traumatic events. HOPE AACR teams are educated to be effective and professional while working in stressful, unpredictable environments.
