9am - 2pm, including lunch. This is the morning session of the Summit for all attendees. Keynote by Jon Jarvis, Director of the National Park Service. Join our two panel discussions with national, state, and local historic preservation organizations: 1) Presentation of American Latinos and the Making of the United States: A Theme Study and 2) The American Latino Legacy in Texas: Moving Forward and Addressing the Challenges. Workshops: After lunch you are invited to attend one of four workshops held concurrently: A) El Corazón del Barrio: A Community Plática on Latino Places in San Antonio, B) Community-Based Tools for Establishing Historic Significance: Case Studies, C) Don’t Get Gentrified! How Can We Make Historic Preservation Work in Working Class Communities?, D) This Place Matters: Preservation 101 Training

National Park Service and American Latino Scholars Expert Panel

 

The American Latino Scholars Expert Panel was established under the auspices of the National Park System Advisory Board. The expert panel provided advice on the conceptual frame and structure of American Latinos and the Making of the United States: A Theme Study, and advises the Board on engaging with Latino American communities to document their stories through National Historic Landmarks and the National Register of Historic Places, and to enhance the interpretation and educational programs in national parks.
