About this event
Samba Reggae is a form of music, dance and resistance born in Salvador, Bahia Brazil during the Civil Rights movement. Its music combines West African and Caribbean rhythms to create a hypnotic-like swing that Afro-Brazilians have been parading to for decades as part of protests and Black Pride demonstrations. Resistance and joy unite in this unique music and dance experience. Original recordings by Mestre Jackson, one of the great musicians responsible for the proliferation of Samba Reggae throughout the world, will accompany us throughout our class in addition to other original works from Bahian masters.
