A Hero is defined as ...” selfless, a genuinely good person who gets the attention of all of us and causes change. They have the responsibility and often save the day.” And “saving the day” is what many of you are asked to do on a routine basis in your careers, your communities and even your life.

Taking lessons from heroes of the expeditionary, military, academic and business world we hope to share some life lessons with you to make you and your organization more resilient and sustainable. Samaritan Solutions Institute is designed to provide leadership training and address current issues not only in the health care industry, but also in economic and rural development. Samaritan Solutions Institute also provides ongoing leadership training and consultative services to all levels of management, directors and executives as well as community leaders and our vendor partners. It brings industry and academic experts together to share the most up-to-date knowledge, tools and solutions.

Our faculty will include:

Jillian Harvey, MPH, PhD is an Associate Professor in Healthcare Leadership and Management at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and the Director for the Doctor of Health Administration Division. She received a Master of Public Health from Oregon State University and a PhD in Health Policy and Administration from the Pennsylvania State University. Her research expertise includes program evaluation, healthcare quality improvement, and mixed methods research approaches. Dr. Harvey is a Co-Investigator for the MUSC HRSA’s funded Telehealth Center of Excellence and the Evaluation Director for MUSC’s NIH funded Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA). Her current researchfocuses on evaluating the development and implementation of telehealth programs and the impact on healthcare outcomes.

Governor Barbara Roberts, Oregon Governor Barbara Roberts talk on The history of Women in Leadership and future directions. Drawing upon her experience as both an advocate for Mental Health and education as well as the First Woman Governor in the state of Oregon Governor Roberts draws leadership lessons from the early pioneer days to current time.

Kelley Kaiser, MPH One of the foremost population health management experts in th nation Kelley had lead the formation of one of the first Coordinated Care Organizations in the state of Organization as well as the start up of an insurance company. Kelley is one of those leaders who leads from the front.

Nancy Seifert PhD has taught in the area of public and population health and has shared change lessons with hundreds both in her role as a faculty member at Oregon State University and as a practicing administrator. Nancy has heroically challenged issues when others were silent and improved our health delivery system.

Larry Mullins, DHA, LFACHE. And of course, Dr Mullins will be sharing updates from his Expeditionary Leadership Heroes Series on Shackleton, Livingston and Powell. Of special interest will be new material on recent Antarctica explorations and attempts to locate Shackleton’s Ship the Endurance and Dr. Mullins efforts to shadow the expeditions. Dr. Mullins formerly served as the President of Samaritan Health Services and is the Founder of Samaritan Solutions Institute and Executive Chairman of Northwest Medical Isotopes a startup Molly 99 production company attempting its own “moon shot” to produce Molly 99 in North America. He will share a lifetime of leadership lessons.
