Event description

Description

Following the Cambridge Analytica scandal; USA election meddling via Facebook; and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), data ethics has become a buzzword for academics, journalists, companies and legislators.

But what does data ethics mean? How does it affect different populations, especially marginalised ones? How do different institutions handle ethics? For example, what does it mean when Google’s AI project DeepMind collaborates with the NHS to develop an app for detecting diseases?

Join this salon to hear speakers including Dr Alison Powell, Assistant Professor in the Department of Media and Communications at LSE, explore the complexity of ‘ethics’ in the age of AI, machine learning and big data; and the different interpretations of ethics for different people.

The salon invites leaders from a wide range of sectors to participate in a discussion on the challenges and opportunities that the use of data and AI holds. We invite specialists who work on the intersection of data ethics research and legislation to get a better understanding of the challenges that various stakeholders experience.

The discussion will be followed by networking drinks hosted at the same venue.

Places at the event are limited, so please register now to secure your ticket.
