John Whitney began his musical career as a teenager in Ithaca, New York, and then continued in the Bay Area where he joined a highly successful R&B band, the Spyders, a band that would later inspire Tower of Power. With the Spyders in 1968, John first backed up Etta James. John rejoined Etta’s band in the late 70s and into the mid 80s. During the same span of time, John collaborated as a song-writer with Tower of Power’s Emilio Castillo and Doc Kupka. One tune, “Credit,” has appeared in several Tower CD’s and was included in Tower’s live set for years. John also wrote several tunes for Marty Balin’s platinum selling “Hearts” and played guitar on Eddie Money’s hit tune, “Maybe I’m a Fool.”

He is credited on 41 games, including 2008’s Dead Space, and several titles in the Call of Duty series.
