Description

Come celebrate Lummi's Xwullemy (Salish Sea) culture and knowledge with music, great food, activities, and youth speakers. The Salish Sea Youth Summit is open to Tribal and non-Tribal local youth (ages 14-24) who would like to learn about Lummi's reciprocal relationship with the Salish Sea, and how these traditions can help us all move in a good way into the future. Everything is connected, and we all need to work together!

Hereditary Chief Tsilixw (Bill James) and the Blackhawk Singers will be featured.

Youth speakers include

  • Teja Julius talking about qwe 'lhol mechen (killer whales)

  • Becky Kinley on Paddle to Lummi (canoe journey)

  • Kyle Kinley on salmon and reefnets

Activities include

  • learning how to do slahal (stick game)

  • canoe pulling time

  • a shared meal at the end of the day, featuring fish that's been cooked in a traditional way on site during the event

Please with an open mind and an open heart, come prepared to learn and participate, and to meet new people.This event is hosted by the Sovereignty and Treaty Protection Office of Lummi Nation, and is funded by a Project Neighborly Grant through the Whatcom Community Foundation.

Registration is easy and required; attendance is free.

Held at the Stommish Grounds on the shores of Hales Passage, the Youth Summit will be held on Friday, May 31, from 3pm-7pm.
