Salford Celluloid Centre of Excellence Launch Event

By Libby Scott

Overview

The official launch of the SCCE - a new hub dedicated to championing the craft, creativity and community of shooting on film in the north.

The SCCE is dedicated to preserving the legacy of celluloid filmmaking and advancing its use in contemporary production. Its mission is to drive research and innovation and expand access to analogue film training for those who may not otherwise have the opportunity to work with celluloid.

Our initiatives are led by cinematographers, lecturers and founders of the SCCE, Laura Hilliard and Steven Wyatt. Their distinguished practice in celluloid filmmaking secured them exclusive access to the Logmar Magellan 65mm camera - among the world's rarest and most sought-after film cameras. Their research partnership with the Danish manufacturer, which is informing the development of a future 65mm camera system, also directly shapes the centres forthcoming one-day and multi-day courses across super 8, 16mm, 35mm and 65mm formats.

Guests will be welcomed with drinks at the New Adelphi Theatre from 6pm. The launch from 6.30pm will feature presentations and panel discussions hosted by videographer, director and screenwriter, Jeremiah Quinn.

You'll also get an exclusive first look at our groundbreaking 65mm camera collaboration with Logmar, including an in-depth discussion with the engineers behind the camera and a screening of never-before-seen 65mm rushes straight from the lab.

We'll wrap up the evening with drinks and a chance to connect with fellow industry professionals, partners and filmmakers who share a passion for celluloid.

Optional tours of the Newton Building will run from 4:30pm on a drop-in basis if you'd like the chance to explore our home to 10 purpose-built sets, studio spaces G68 and G100, prior to the evening event. Get an insider's look at our production environments and discover the resources available to filmmakers through the Centre. The only spaces of their kind in the north.

Our doors are open - and we can’t wait to roll film with you.
