We are pleased to announce a SakaiCamp un-conference in Orlando Florida January 21 - 25, 2017 .
For group rates, please make your hotel reservations using this link:
Reservations Deadline: The room block will be held until December 19, 2016. Reservations received after this date may be accepted at the same rate, based on hotel’s availability. Unsold rooms will automatically revert back to the Hotel's inventory for sale to the general public on this cut-off date.
There are two good airport options coming into Orlando.
Orlando/Sanford International Airport: 35 miles from hotel. Mostly flies Allegiant and smaller carriers from regional airports (including international http://www.orlandosanfordairport.com/airlines.asp) . Might be an option for some people.
Orlando International Airport: 15 miles from hotel. Major carriers and most likely option
Airport car rental would be the best choice to the hotel from any airport. Otherwise taking a Supershuttle from the airport (About $18 one way) is an option if you do not want to rent a car. Once at the hotel, having a car wouldn’t be too useful as many places are within walking distance, others might have cars and there are other transport options available.
We will have team building / informal hacking sessions on Sunday January 22 and expect to work into the evening on January 24 so attendees are encouraged to arrive Saturday January 21, or even Friday January 20, and not leave until Wednesday January 25 to gain the maximum benefit. There might be some spontaneous social activity on Saturday, that's why we mention you might want to come on Friday, but nothing is planned as of yet for that day.
While the overall format of the SakaiCamp is an un-conference and as such very dynamic and determined by the participants we will soon be gathering topics, which we found to be a great way to "seed" topics.
The Sakai PMC and Sakai Community Coordinator will be running the main meeting although there will likely be lots of little side meetings going on from time to time. We only have one main meeting room in the Holiday Inn - but we are in the heart of International Drive so there are lots of places like Starbucks to have side meetings from time to time. The breakfast area at the Holiday Inn would also be available to get a break from the meeting room without leaving the hotel.
While there will be some code work at the meeting, coding is not the primary focus of the meeting. The primary focus is collaborative planning around the project. If you came to SakaiCamp2016, you know what I mean. We are happy to provide more details or testomonials.
This is an open meeting and anyone in the Sakai or Apereo communities are welcome to attend. But space is limited and we anticipate being able to accommodate 40 people maximum.
