Event description

Description

Nashville is a city full of heroes and scandal. Come explore our rich history and hear from some of the people who filled the newspapers of the 19th century. Visitors will see the cemetery and hear from:

  • Anne Dallas Dudley, who fought passionately to get women the right to vote
  • George Dickel, the famous liquor baron
  • Hary Lehman, a prohibition violator who died under suspicious circumstances
  • John Catron, a U.S. Supreme Court Justice
  • W.B. Bates, a Confederate general and later Governor of Tennessee
  • Edward Emerson Barnard, Tennessee's most notable astronomer
  • Birdie Patterson, a murder victim and the center of one of our most salacious trials
  • Samuel Watkins, founder of the Watkins Institute of Art
  • and more!

Tours begin at 3:00pm and leave every ten minutes. The last tour leaves at 6:00pm. Tours last nearly an hour, and visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes. Those coming after dark will see the cemetery in a beautiful glow, as guides will have lanterns to lead.
