Event description
Our first Virtual Burns Supper with dinner, Bagpipes, Scottish Fiddlers, and ceilidh dancing all from the comfort of home.

About this Event

Join us to celebrate Scotland's National Bard, Robbie Burns and our 159th annual Burns Supper's Scottish heritage. This year we will be celebrating slightly differently in a virtual setting bringing the haggis directly to your door. The evening will be filled with poetry, music, dance, and song to acknowledge the Robert Burns's impact on Scottish cultural arts while honouring contemporary literary arts and Scottish women's contributions in the modern era.

Highland dress or formal attire encouraged but only if you want to show your colors during the after-party.

This year we will have our featured artist, Gerda Stevenson. Gerda is a writer, actor, director, singer, and songwriter. Gerda works in theatre, television, radio, film, and opera, throughout Britain and abroad. Her poetry, drama and prose are widely published, staged and broadcast, including plays for BBC Radio 4.

Winner of a BAFTA Best Film Actress award for Margaret Tait’s feature film, BLUE BLACK PERMANENT, and appeared as the Murren's mother in BRAVEHEART. Her books include INSIDE & OUT – the art of Christian Small (Scotland Street Press, 2019), with an introduction and poems by Gerda, reviewed in The National as “One of the most beautiful books ever published in Scotland”; and EDINBURGH, a collaboration with landscape photographer Allan Wright, for which she wrote a personal introduction and 22 poems. For more information go to www.gerdastevenson.co.uk

Her recent publication, QUINES: Poems in tribute to women of Scotland, "brings together a diverse array of Scottish women – politicians, queens, a salt seller, a half-hanged woman, scientists, writers and artists, singers, a dancer, a fish-gutter and others" in a celebration of female Scottish literary often unsung heroes.

Gerda will illustrate Robert Burns' impact on contemporary literary arts through speech and song in her soothing and musical style.

Local Guests (within 70 miles radius from San Francisco) will have the option of a four-course par-cooked meal delivered to your door to be eaten during the event. Created by Chef Derrik Soares of Popups Unlimited this meal will give you a taste of Scotland, freshly made just for you.

The distillers of GlenDronach have also made sure you're not missing a dram by sponsoring every guest with two post-dinner whisky and cheese pairings of their 12 and 18 aged whiskies. Rory Glasgow will offer a short tasting notes session during the after-party. Each meal will come with two 50ml tastings and cheese included with your delivery.

Group ticket holders and those who wish to add to the party will have the choice from a selection of wines from Penfolds and Beringer Vineyards. The Isle of Arran's Burns Single Malt will also be on offer to those who want to keep the party going. You must buy a meal ticket in order to have any add-ons delivered to you. If you wish to have a non-wine option, the individual tickets would be your best option.

Vegetarians have the option of Rumbledethumps, if chosen all courses will be converted into meat-free options including a meat free vegetarian haggis and Cock-a-Leekie Soup with vegetable stock.
