Saging the World: Documentary Film Screening

The film Saging the World spotlights the ecological and cultural issues intertwined with white sage, centering the voices of Native advocates who have long protected and cherished this plant.

White sage (Salvia apiana) only occurs in southern California and northern Baja California, Mexico, and Indigenous communities have tended a relationship with white sage for thousands of generations.

With sage smudging becoming a viral trend in movies and popular culture, the appropriated use of saging in popular culture is having a harmful effect. Today, poachers are stealing metric tons of this plant from the wild to supply international demand.

Join us for this special screening of Saging the World on Thursday, January 12th. The film will be followed by a panel discussion with director Rose Ramirez (artist, photographer, filmmaker, writer, and California Indian Basketweaver of Chumash and Yaqui descent) and Rico Ramirez (Botanist, Gabrielino-Shoshone Nation).
