Event description

Description

Presented by Dave Thelan and Matt Chrystal, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

Hosted in partnership with the Center for Prevention and Counseling, NAMI Sussex, and Saint Clare’s Intensive Family Support Services

SafeTALK is a three-hour, suicide intervention training program developed by Living Works designed to prepare trainees to help individuals at risk of suicide and/or survivors of suicide. The training is open to anyone 15 years of age or older who has a desire to help these at-risk individuals and connect them with necessary resources. It is appropriate for school personnel, high school and college students, youth leaders, parents, clergy, resident assistants, and other motivated individuals from the general public.

At the conclusion of the workshop, trainees will be better able to move beyond common tendencies to miss, dismiss, or avoid warning signs among individuals with suicidal ideations, identify individuals who have thoughts of suicide, apply the TALK steps (Tell, Ask, Listen and KeepSafe), and connect a person at risk with intervention caregivers. Each participant who completes the training will receive a safeTALK Resource Kit which contains a printed wallet card and access to a smartphone app of the TALK steps, two reusable stickers identifying the participant’s willingness and ability to help, a resource book, and a certificate. The program is free and open to the public, but registration is required. A light dinner will be provided. For more information or to register, please contact Cheire or Christie at the Family Partners office at 973-940-3194.
