Event description

Description

We hear a lot in the news about the opioid epidemic, but less about how we are going to stop this crisis. Santa Cruz County has been working in collaboration with doctors, pharmacists, and other community members on prevention. Prevention includes shifting prescribing practices, providing alternatives for long-term pain management, locking medications, and disposing of unused meds at drop offs sites around Santa Cruz County.

-Keynote by Dr. Morris on "How to talk to your doctor" with opening and introductions from Councilmember Martine Watkins and Supervisor Ryan Coonerty
-Music by Garfield Park Community band
-Yoga from the Yoga For All Movement
-3-point shooting contest, hosted by the Santa Cruz Warriors

-Pain management information, demos, and art therapy with Bay Area Pain and Wellness Center, a Prospira PainCare Center
-Family art area to make prayer flags and buttons organized by Santa Cruz County Friday Night Live Partnership
-Overdose reversal training (Narcan) provided by Janus of Santa Cruz and Santa Cruz Fire Department
-Ate3one and Lindsey's Palate Pleasures serving up delicious food
-A prescription medication take-back kiosk staffed by Santa Cruz Police
-Mindfulness meditation
-Voices of recovery-stories from Santa Cruz residents
-A demonstration for securing and monitoring medications in the home
-Ask a doctor, pharmacist, and therapist
