Description

Safe & Together™ Model CORE Training (4 Days) at Asia Pacific Conference

4 Day Training — 3-6 February, 2019 (right before the Asia Pacific Safe & Together™ Model Conference)

Domestic violence-informed child welfare practice requires skills in assessment, interviewing, documentation and case planning. Safe & Together Institute’s CORE Training offers four days of experiential classroom training in these foundational skills.

Consisting of 22 educational hours of lecture, group exercises, discussion, video, the CORE Training provides participants with an improved understanding of:

  • Assessing perpetrators’ behavior patterns and their impact on child and family functioning
  • Partnering with adult survivors of domestic violence
  • Interventions with perpetrators

A 4-day training program by Certified Safe & Together Trainers, which includes hands-on practice and modeling of the following key skills:

  • Videos modeling interviewing perpetrators, survivors and children
  • Multiple Pathways to Harm & Mapping perpetrators’ patterns — two methods for assessing the impact of a domestic violence perpetrator on child and family functioning
  • Practicing comprehensive assessment of adult survivors’ strengths
  • Practicing domestic violence-informed documentation
  • Case planning activities to learn how to develop plans to keep children and families safer

In order to facilitate skills development, each day is organized around a specific practice skill:

  • Day I is focused on Assessment
  • Day II is focused on Interviewing
  • Day III is focused on Documentation
  • Day IV is focused on Case Planning

CORE Training (4 Days)

Each day teaches knowledge and skills related to overall domestic violence-informed practice and specific techniques related to perpetrators, survivors, and children. Throughout the training, participants engage in Action Planning to translate their new learning into step-by-step change in their day-to-day practice.

The training package includes a pre- and post-knowledge test, and a training evaluation. Participants who attend all four days and receive a score of 80% or higher on the post test will receive a certificate, which indicates they are allowed to identify as having completed "Safe & Together™ Model CORE Training Level I." Participants who attend, but do not take the test or who fail to achieve a score of 80% or higher will receive an acknowledgement of attendance.

CORE Training is a prerequisite to becoming a Certified Trainer, a Safe & Together Model Coach, and other advanced trainings.
