Description
Safe Routes to School Policy Development Workshop
with the Safe Routes to School National Partnership
Are you interested in Safe Routes to School? Transportation safety? Liability? Making Safe Routes to School a priority for school districts, cities, and counties?!
Policies specific to student safety and health goals are an integral part of successful and sustainable Safe Routes to School programs. Policies are a great way to make sure that Safe Routes principles, programs, and practices remain even after funding for a program runs out. Bus safety practices, periodic data collection, pick-up and drop-off procedures, walk and bike to school days, etc. can all be supported by policy. This workshop will teach you how to create, enact and implement policies at all levels that support active and healthy community environments that encourage safe walking and bicycling by children.
Join the Safe Routes to School National Partnership, WALKSacramento, and SACOG for a hands on workshop to learn how to incporporate student safety and health goals and programs into:
- School wellness, transportation and district policies
- General plans and other city and county planning documents
- Lean how to work with school districts to get policies enacted
- Learn how to navigate liability concerns within your Safe Routes to School work
