SAFe for Government


Transitioning to Lean-Agile practices for building digital services is especially challenging in the government context. But legacy governance, contracting, and organizational barriers can be overcome with the right information and strategies. During this two-day course, attendees will learn the principles and practices of the Scaled Agile Framework® (SAFe®), how to execute and release value through Agile Release Trains, and what it means to lead a Lean-Agile transformation of a program inside a government agency.

Attendees will gain an understanding of the Lean-Agile mindset and why it’s an essential foundation for transformation. They’ll also get practical advice on building high performing multi-vendor Agile teams and programs, managing technology investments in Lean flow, acquiring solutions with Agile contracting, launching the program, planning, and delivering value using SAFe, and how specific leadership behaviors can drive successful organizational change, even in government.

Learning Goals To perform the role of a SAFe® for Government leader, attendees should be able to:

  • Transition government programs from traditional software and systems development models to Lean-Agile and DevOps mindset, principles, and practices using SAFe
  • Adapt technology strategy, budgeting and forecasting, acquisition, compliance, and governance processes to flow-based practices using emerging government guidelines
  • Organize government programs into one or more Agile Release Trains (ARTs) and execute in Program Increments (PIs)
  • Explore Large Solution coordination in a government and multi-vendor environment Identify and internalize the mindset and leader behaviors essential to successful Lean-Agile transformation
  • Follow success patterns for SAFe implementations adapted to the government context
  • Build a preliminary outline of next steps to begin and/or accelerate the SAFe implementation in your program or agency

Annual Renewal

Membership renewals are one year from the date certification is earned

  • Renewal fee: $100
  • Attendees may be eligible to apply for 15 PDUs toward their continuing education requirements with the Project Management Institute (PMI) for PMP, PgMP, and PMI-ACP certifications
  • Attendees may be eligible to apply for SEUs under category C, toward earning or renewing their CSP through Scrum Alliance

About the Trainer

Carmen Graver, SPC 4 and Enterprise Lean-Agile Coach 

Ms. Carmen Graver is the founder and CEO of Graver Agile Innovations, LLC which specializes in bringing Agile practices to highly regulated environments. She is a founding member of the Software Engineering Institute’s Agile Collaboration Group, which provides a forum for the sharing of experience and knowledge about applying Agile practices within the Federal Government. Ms. Graver began her Agile journey as a Marine Corps employee, where she championed the implementation of Agile practices. She led the effort to develop the first Marine Corps Agile Framework (MC-Agile) that tailored Agile practices to Marine Corps specific needs. She developed and delivered Agile training to more than 250 Acquisition professionals, from entry level to SES. Ms. Graver is working with Marine Corps programs to develop their Agile adoption strategy. In addition to her work with the Marine Corps, Ms. Graver provides Agile coaching and training to organizations in the insurance and banking industries as well as the US Army and the Library of Congress. She is a PMI Certified Agile Practitioner, a Certified Scrum Master, Certified Product Owner, Certified Scrum Professional, and a Scaled Agile Framework Professional Consultant.

    Refunds can be requested through your Eventbrite account up to 30 days before the start of training.

 What if we cancel training class?

    We take cancellations seriously because we realize it takes planning for you to find the time to enroll in training class. Although we do all we can to avoid cancelling class, occasionally it happens. If we cancel a training class, we will either refund your money 100% or help you find another date to transfer your reservation. 

Does our registration fee include lunch and breakfast?

   YES! Continental breakfast, snacks and lunch are included with the registration fee.

 Is there an additional cost for training materials?

  NO. The cost of materials is included with the registration fee.
