Description

Updated April 18, 2018, Winnipeg, MB:

To continue celebrating Sadie Grimm making herstory as the winner of the Manitoba Motorcycle Club's Gold Medal in 1914, another motorcycle ride and celebration will take place on Sunday, June 10, 2018. The ride begins at Salisbury House, 787 Leila Ave, Winnipeg, MB with registration between 10 am and 11 am.

Sadie Grimm was a teenager when she rode her 1913 Indian Motorcycle through the swamps and bogs and on railway tracks to become the first rider to reach Winnipeg Beach.

Planned motorcycle ride (may modify depending on condition of roads) will tour through Stoney Mountain, Stonewall, Balmoral, Teulon (Special lunch feature at FryDays, for participating riders and passengers, "Sadie Burger with Grimm sauce, fries and a soft drink" for $14.00), Fraserwood and Gimli, ending in Winnpeg Beach at the bandstand.

Celebrations at Winnipeg Beach start at 3 pm. Special treat this year includes music by Rob Barg, who has produced a song honouring Sadie Grimm. On display will be the motorcycle sculpture designed, fabricated, and donated by Garden City Collegiate. If you can only attend the concert, cost is $10.00 plus fees.

All proceeds will be directed to placing a legacy project dedicated to Sadie Grimm and her victory. In 1914 Sadie reported to the majestic Empress Hotel in Winnipeg Beach to claim her gold medal. That's where a covered "motorcycle" picnic shelter will be erected to memorialize Sadie. Last years ride, and fund raising efforts since then, have raised over $10,000. Grants have been applied for and additional donations are being requested. Total costs of the project is estimated at $40,000. This month, we received provincial parks approval of our concept. Let's have fun, raising it together.

Online registration for the ride and concert is:

Advance: Rider $20.00, plus fees.

Day of Ride: Rider $25.00

Passenger $10.00, plus fees

Concert registration only is $10.00, plus fees

Donations can be made on Sadie Grimm donation link on the cmmg.org website.

Sadie Grimm crests can be advance ordered on the "Sparkles & Threads" facebook site. Blacknot Farms designed and created the Sadie Grimm medallions presented at last year's event. Dayna Altstadt took that design and converted it into an amazing crest. Cost: $10.00 plus postage, if required.

Quilt raffle tickets are being sold 3 for $5.00. The quilt will be "one of a kind". Features include: picture of Sadie Grimm, Sadie Grimm gold medal crest, CMMG crest, AMCM crest. Maximum of 600 tickets being sold.

Quilt raffle tickets (3 for $5), advance ride registrations ($20 rider, $10 passenger) and crests ($10) will be available at CMMG general meetings (7 pm to 8 pm, second Wednesday of the month 'April 11 and May 9' in basement of the Marion Hotel, 233 Marion St). They will also be available at the end of the CMMG Safety Ride and Dealer Derby on International Female Ride Day, Saturday, May 5. That free derby finishes between 3 PM and 5 PM at the Legion on DeVries, Henderson and North Perimter). Check CMMG.org for more details.
