Event description

Description

The influence of religion on the fabric of America is undeniable. The same can be said of the influence of religion on the city of Detroit. While new churches are popping up as people return to Detroit, its easy to forget the rich history we have in the form of places of worship. From Michigan's oldest church located in Southwest Detroit to hip, colorful synagogues tucked away in the downtown core, connecting to something or Someone bigger than ourselves has helped shape the lives of millions of people here. In a spirit of reverence and respect for the role of religious establishments in Detroit, our Sacred Spaces Tour seeks to expose people to big stories that affect our everyday lives. During our tour you’ll experience 3 or 4 amazing houses of worship, each with a story of their own. We'll get a chance to hear from pastors, priests, rabbis, church historians, and more!

Highlights may include:

  • Saint Aloysius
  • The Downtown Synagogue
  • St. Anne's Catholic Church
  • The Bonstelle Theatre (formerly Temple Beth El)
  • Central United Methodist Church
  • First Congregational Church
  • Second Baptist Church
  • Mariner's Church
  • Holy Family

NOTE: This tour is limited to 30 people. In order to cover the cost of the bus rental, we must sell 10 seats on the bus. In the event we do not sell enough seats, the tour will unfortunately have to be cancelled and you will be refunded.
