SACRED PAWS + Gaud + Hothead

9pm - $12 adv/$14 dos - All Ages

SACRED PAWS

Glasgow, UK

https://sacredpaws.bandcamp.com/

Sacred Paws formed in 2014 when guitarist and vocalist Rachel Aggs (also a member of Shopping and Trash Kit) and drummer Eilidh Rodgers’ former band Golden Grrrls disbanded. Looking for a good excuse to continue hanging out despite living hundreds of miles apart - with Rachel residing in London and Eilidh based in Glasgow - the two have traveled every few months to write songs. The excitement of the two friends meeting after months away from one another bleeds into each Sacred Paws songs, and even the tracks with heavier or more contemplative lyrical content are full of sunny and infectious melodies.

GAUD

[Guad] undoubtedly make art, but their guiding tenet is craft. “When I say that, I mean in the sense that Art with a capital A is thought of as something rarefied, something outside the context of everyday life, outside of everyone’s grasp or potential,” expounds [Guad]. “That sense of craft, of something you return to every day and is valuable because it is something you share in common with all people, is how I think of music. Well, good music at least.” [Guad] bring us music and movement and struggle and light, and now it is our job to dance!

HOTHEAD

Baltimore, MD

Songwriting is one way to tell life’s most ineffable truths, and Laurie Spector knows it. The 28-year-old says that if the homemade rock songs she writes as Hothead are about anything, they’re about “how life feels right now.” More specifically, how it felt last summer. That’s when Spector — who has done time in some of the District’s coolest bands, including Foul Swoops, Gauche, Peoples Drug and others — wrote and recorded Hothead’s seven-song debut in its entirety.
