Sacramento Science on Tap: Across the Universe

Sacramento Science on Tap: Across the Universe

By California Groundbreakers

Overview

A fascinating and possibly mind-bending conversation with UC Davis astronomers about the things we know and don't know about the cosmos.

Hi, this is Vanessa, your salon host.

For our last “Sacramento Science of Tap” of 2025, let’s look up at the night sky, learn more about the stars and planets surrounding us, and consider our place in the universe.

Markus Luty and Lloyd Knox are UC Davis professors in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Markus studies the interactions of elementary particles (electrons, photons, quarks, etc.,) and Lloyd studies cosmology (the structure of the universe on large scales).

They would like to have a fascinating and possibly mind-bending conversation with you about the things that we know and don't know about the cosmos, including what the universe is made of, the fundamental laws that govern the universe, and the deep connections between the unimaginably big and the ridiculously small.

Please bring your questions — nothing is too dumb or too small to ask.
