Event description

Description

Get ready for the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)! Join the CCOF Foundation for a food safety workshop that meets the FSMA training requirement for produce growers.

Is your business a produce farm that grosses between $250,000–$500,000 in annual sales?

If the answer is yes, you may be required by the FSMA Produce Safety Rule to complete a mandatory Produce Safety Alliance (PSA)-approved training course by the beginning of 2019. We’re here to help: attend one of our low-cost, in-person workshops that will fulfill this requirement.

Each in-person workshop begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. and runs through 5:30 p.m. Lunch, course materials, and certificate fees are included in the cost of registration.

The trainers will spend approximately seven hours of instruction time covering content contained in these seven modules:

  • Introduction to Produce Safety
  • Worker Health, Hygiene, and Training
  • Soil Amendments
  • Wildlife, Domesticated Animals, and Land Use
  • Agricultural Water (Part I: Production Water; Part II: Postharvest Water)
  • Postharvest Handling and Sanitation
  • How to Develop a Farm Food Safety Plan

In addition to learning about produce safety best practices, key parts of the FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirements are outlined within each module. There will be time for questions and discussion, so participants should come prepared to share their experiences and produce safety questions.

For more information, read the official PSA grower training course description.

After attending the entire course, participants will be eligible to receive a certificate from the Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) that verifies they have completed the training course. To receive an AFDO certificate, a participant must be present for the entire training and submit the appropriate paperwork to their trainer at the end of the course.

The workshops are open to both organic and non-organic produce growers. Growers from produce farms that gross less than $250,000 in annual sales are also welcome to attend the training. Farms in this range may need to complete the PSA-approved training by the beginning of 2020.

Registration is required, so reserve your spot now, as space is limited.

Still unsure about whether you are required to take this training? Check out our FSMA Basics for Produce Growers blog post.

Please note, these PSA-approved food safety trainings are not workshops on how to obtain third-party food safety certification. FSMA does not require produce growers to have third-party food safety certification. Produce buyers may require a third-party food safety certification prior to purchasing produce from a farm. PSA-approved trainings are required for some produce farms to comply with the federally mandated FSMA regulations.

About Our Trainers

Workshop trainers will vary depending on workshop location and workshop language. All our trainers are certified by PSA to teach PSA grower trainings. They bring practical knowhow to the classroom from their experience assisting growers in addressing food safety matters through their work at California Center for Cooperative Development, CCOF Food Safety Services, or as agricultural consultants.
