Description

The test of our times:

How businesses find, hire and keep a good workforce.

With unemployment running at a 4-year record, businesses are scrambling to sustain their workforces. Some are turning to apprenticeship programs, others to nontraditional workers, such as retirees. All are grappling with demographic trends that make hiring and keeping good workers a challenge. Especially with New Hampshire and Boston companies just a short ride down I-95.

Join us for a conversation about strategies to sustain your workforce in Saco-Biddeford businesses.

Doors open at 7:15 a.m. with coffee and networking until 8:00 a.m. when the program begins. Program ends at 9 a.m. Coffee and light breakfast provided.

Parking on-site is free. Please use the exterior spaces on the perimeter of the parking lot, so as not to displace credit union customers or consider carpooling, if possible.

About the moderator:

Hosted by Business editor Carol Coultas. Carol Coultas has been practicing journalism in Maine since the mid-‘80s and focusing on business journalism since 2003. She’s been the business editor at the Press Herald, overseeing an award-winning staff, since 2014.

On the panel:

Charles Collins, Deputy Executive Director of Workforce Training, Maine Community College System

Charlie has a long history aligning higher education credentials to workforce development, professional education and adult learning. How an apprenticeship or certificate program might benefit your company is a favorite topic.

Laura Dolce, Executive Director, Kennebunk-Kennbunkport-Arundel Chamber of Commerce

Laura has been at the helm of the local chamber for nearly five years after a career in newspapers. She recently helped spearhead a successful program to attract older workers out of retirement and place them in jobs within coastal Maine’s burgeoning hospitality industry.

Veronica Stover, HR Director, Arundel Machine

Veronica has been with Arundel Machine Tool since March 2014. She onboards all new hires, assists employees with retirement plans and benefit enrollment. The company has a successful apprenticeship program and puts a premium on investing in its workers – two initiatives that help stabilize its staffing.
