The San Antonio 48-hour Film Experience

We give you the theme. We give you the location. We give you the genre. We give you 48 hours. You create movie magic.
Grab your filmmaking partners, put together a winning team, and register to participate in sa48hr before 10:00pm on Wednesday, January 6. Then join us on Friday, January 8 between 5:00-6:30pm at the Hotel Emma lobby to pick up your registration materials and maybe even catch a peek of the competition. All submissions are due in exactly 48 hours, to the Hotel Emma lobby, on Sunday, January 10 between 5:00-6:30pm.

THE DETAILS AND RULES:
Kick-Off Location: Hotel Emma Lobby, 136 E. Grayson, 78215, Friday, January 8, 5:00-6:30pm
Drop-Off Location: Hotel Emma Lobby, 136 E. Grayson, 78215, Sunday, January 10, 5:00-6:30pm
SCREENING: Alamo Drafthouse Park North, 618 Northwest Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78216, Thursday, January 14, 6:00pm
Awards ceremony to follow screening!
-You will have exactly 48 hours to submit your film, utilizing this year's theme: A NEW BEGINNING. All film submissions must incorporate a literal or figurative interpretation of the theme.
-Films are limited to 8 minutes in total running time (including all credits) and may be shot on any format, but each film must be delivered on NTSC DVD and as a QuickTime file (see specs below).
-Each team must pre-register no later than 10:00pm on Wednesday, January 6.
-Each team must send at least one representative to the initial Friday 5:00pm event to receive instructions and film criteria.
-Each team will draw for the following criteria on Friday:
-Each team will then leave to begin writing, producing, and editing their film.
-After production, all teams must deliver a completed film to the Challenge HQ, by 6:30pm on Sunday, January 10. Films will not be accepted after the deadline, no exceptions.
-Films will be judged by a 3-5-member panel, consisting of local industry veterans, critics, or media educators.
-You must also turn in the following forms, which you will receive at check-in:

LIABILITY RELEASES for actors and locations
POSSIBLE GENRES (some may repeat, depending on number of teams)
POSSIBLE LOCATIONS (some may repeat, depending on number of teams)
Additional info, including digital submission info:
-Films should be submitted via Vimeo link emailed to email@example.com AND on a USB flash drive at the drop-off location. Your film must be:
-self-contained (without references or links to other movie files)
-QuickTime file without proprietary codes (no Avid or Final Cut Pro codecs)
-High Definition/HD (1920x1080p with 16X9 aspect ratio) OR
-Standard Definition/SD (720x480 pixels with 16X9 or 4X3 aspect ratio)
-on a USB flash drive, in addition to Vimeo link sent via email before 6:30pm Sunday 01/10
-Your media will NOT be returned.
-The file should be at least one gigabyte (1GB) and less than 8 gigabytes (8GB). If not, it is likely that there is something wrong.
-If we cannot play your film on our equipment, it may be disqualified, and it may not be shown. We highly recommend you submit a second copy of your film in the SD/NTSC regular DVD format as well, just in case we cannot use your QuickTime version.
