Renew, refresh, revise, revitalize, and re-think your roles and strategies in ELT. This course is designed to be student-driven and based on your experience trying to implement course concepts (i.e. focus on functional language, ARPEE, appropriate sequencing, etc.) in your classrooms.
INSTRUCTOR: Denny Sargent
- Goal setting, sharing of issues/solutions
- General review of problem-solving strategies, methods, techniques and 'rules of thumb'
- Brainstorming 'out of the box' solutions for teaching reading, writing, listening and speaking
- Effective classroom procedure tips, ideas and strategies with English learners
DAY 1 - Intro to review, problem-solving workshop, pragmatic solutions
DAY 2 - Fluency activities / listening & speaking objectives and pragmatics
DAY 3 - Structural activities / grammar & pronunciation objectives and pragmatics
DAY 4 - Integrating content / reading & writing objectives and pragmatics
DAY 5 - Textbook chapter plan, lesson planning, micro-teaching
The instructor will send you any pre-course work assignments via email once you have registered. This will likely entail gathering some prior lessons plans and reflecting on particularly challenging situations you've faced in the classroom.
Expect 1-2 hrs of homework each night maximum.
