Event description

For the summer of 2019, DK and friends are hosting an online conversation in a forum called 'In the Vernacular.'

We want to discover new voices, so we are creating this online space for new conversations to begin. 'In the Vernacular' takes place from 1-30 June, only. Min 4. Max 10. Programme fee is USD 120.

The way it works is that we write to people who join this project each Tuesday, with a fresh prompt. Then we talk together, mostly in forums, sometimes 1:1 on email, to develop ideas and themes. Guests can work on their own projects or develop somethign new, with others in the programme. This is international, and asynchronous (no need to show up for anything), and so, it works on a self-guided pace.

WHAT IT IS. You can be a part of a creative international team for the production and co-creation of new works, in S P A C E. The magazine that we publish is designed to invite S P A C E for real life: real people, real conversaiton, real journeys, and real and contemporary storie set in hyperlocal spots. A lot, yeah. 'In the Vernacular' guests will be invited to talk with DK and our other guests about this theme. We use encyrpted email and also online forums, which DK moderates, to keep the conversations flowing. And there are just 10 spots. Cozy.

HOSTED BY DK. This is hosted by DK, which has 20 years of experience in: journalism, design, photography, illustration and publishing. When you take part in this short 4-week programme, you'll gain new and valuable skills in the process of collaboration, exploring a theme, and being given custom and direct editorial and creative feedback so that you can make your work in a small team, and not just on your own, wherever you find yourself in June. Be a part of this magical process of collaboration and co-creation. DK's creative director Dipika Kohli, whose background is in engineering, architecture, and journalism, will moderate the forums and write the Tuesday prompts.

THE CONTEXT. Since 2017, DK has worked with a handful of people to develop story ideas and publish them in past issues of S P A C E. We are ready to receive new perspectives and are therefore opening this call for applications to join us to begin the process, which is simply conversations online about the theme. For S P A C E | Summer 2019, we are exploring the topic: 'In the Vernacular.' Read more about S P A C E at our website.

WHERE. Online.

WHEN. Apply before the end of May. The program will be held online 1-30 June, 2019. Just once.

WHY. Because some of us are still interested in depth, quality, conversation, connexion, and... meaning-making. Because some of us can see through facades and are bored with them. Because some of us love collaboration, whereby something better than we each could have made together gets made... in S P A C E. Experience it. Be a part of it, and discover the journey of collaboration that welcomes new and different others to a table that is round, open, inclusive and inviting the complexity of that which is all of ours--with a wide-angle lens on how we see, think, feel and share. Questions and comments welcome. Be sure to ask us when you apply. Apply here.
