S O U N D I N G S : String Theory.

String Theory is the first instalment of Soundings for 2018 and seeks to showcase the Melbourne based bands, ensembles and musical projects of the Chatham 100.

In early 2018, a small group of Melbourne musicians travelled to Sydney to perform as part of Rhys Chatham’s 100 piece guitar orchestra as a special event of the Sydney Festival.

Performing over two nights at Carriageworks, the orchestra presented the celebrated New York composer’s seminal ambient work Crimson Grail as a re-voicing of the sonic textures, layers and cacophonies originally conceived by Chatham in 2005 as a commissioned work for the City of Paris performed in the Sacré Coeur Basilica.

Presenting an eclectic bill of ensembles, bands and solo acts which traverse numerous guitar based genres from sound art to experimental noise and post rock, String Theory will be proudly presented by S O U N D I N G S and the Northcote Social Club over two stages on ANZAC Day 2018.

Bands and orchestra members performing include:

* Badskin (Carla Oliver)

* The Spheres (Guy Harris & Seth Rees)

* Scenic Recovery (Sam Filmer)

* MNMM (Gerard Mason)

* Drongo (Tom Sullivan)

* Hospital Pass (Bonnie Mercer & Lisa MacKinney)

* Seth Rees (solo)
