S-339 Division Group Supervisor
Overview
Prepare to lead division and group operations on wildland fire and all-hazards incidents
This 3-day course provides the nationally recognized training required to perform in the Division/Group Supervisor (DIVS) role under National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) standards. It is designed for experienced fireline leaders ready to advance into supervisory positions within the Incident Command System (ICS).
Course Overview
S-339 Division/Group Supervisor prepares students to manage division or group operations on wildland fire and all-hazards incidents. The course emphasizes leadership, decision-making, operational coordination, and risk management at the division/group level.
Topics include:
- Division/group roles and responsibilities within ICS
- Managing tactical operations and resources
- Risk management and firefighter safety
- Situational awareness and decision-making
- Communication and coordination with Command and General Staff
- Scenario-based exercises and case studies
This course fulfills the NWCG training requirement for the Division/Group Supervisor (DIVS) position.

Prerequisites / Eligibility
Students must meet one of the following qualifications to attend:
- Qualified as a Strike Team/Task Force Leader, OR
- Qualified as an Incident Commander Type 3 (ICT3)
Students should already have experience operating within ICS and managing resources on incidents.

Students are required to purchase the S-339 Division/Group Supervisor course textbook.
